While scuba diving near St. Martin, a friend of Borderlands creator Randy Pitchford reportedly discovered an unannounced Google Pixel Watch 5 prototype at the bottom of the Caribbean Sea, according to The Verge. This bizarre find immediately catapulted an unreleased device into the public eye, bypassing months of guarded development.

Google strives for absolute secrecy around its unreleased hardware, but a prototype of its next Pixel Watch was found underwater and publicly revealed by a celebrity, turning an industrial security failure into a high-profile adventure story.

Google will likely face pressure to either accelerate its official announcement or address the leak, potentially impacting its carefully planned marketing strategy for the Pixel Watch 5.

What the Leaked Watch Reveals

  • Markings on the back of the leaked watch appeared to identify it as a Google Pixel Watch 5, according to Tech Times.
  • Photos of the alleged Pixel Watch 5 prototype were shared on X by an account named DuvalMagic, which is associated with Randy Pitchford, according to reports.

Clear physical markings on the device itself confirm its identity as an unannounced Google Pixel Watch 5, establishing the leak's credibility. This unprecedented discovery, amplified by a public figure, immediately thrusts Google's unannounced device into the global spotlight.

Advanced Features Confirmed

Photos of the watch show markings including IP68 ingress protection, a heart rate sensor, UWB chip, pulse sensor, and skin temp tracking, according to Kotaku. The back of the found watch indicates it is a Google Pixel Watch 5, with mentions of a heart-rate sensor and ultra-wideband chip, according to Theverge.

The revealed features, including advanced health sensors and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, indicate Google's focus on comprehensive tracking and robust connectivity for its next smartwatch. The IP68 ingress protection rating, while standard, was ironically and definitively proven by the watch's underwater discovery, turning a technical specification into a key part of the leak's bizarre narrative.
